originally obedient and without much substance as an individual, dosei has evolved from a 'blank slate' to the rude creature he is now after mimicking the humanity he's observed for centuries. rather than embrace the more positive and pleasant side of things, the attitudes of his 'superior' have caused his personality to take a dive into the unpleasant. he seems to constantly shrug off people’s worries, either ignoring them or finding them too boring to bother with. the feelings of others aren’t what he tends to take into consideration when he does anything, and when he does, it’s to see the kind of reaction he can get. on a surface level, he might even seem to enjoy making people miserable, because it supplies some form of entertainment to an otherwise boring existence.

raised without a proper education and generally mistreated, dosei tends to act as childish as he looks, and likes to do things on a whim. his curiosity is dangerous and needs to constantly be sated, the want (or need) to learn driving him to do potentially harmful things just to see what will happen. be it yanking at people's appendages or shoving his hands in an open flame, he does what he wants to do because he feels that's his right. he dislikes being told otherwise, and will react aggressively or even violently should someone try to force him into something he vehemently doesn't want to do. he values his freedom over everything else, and wants to be acknowledged as an 'individual' or a 'person' who has control over their life despite how he's been told otherwise. the fear of losing it is deep-seeded, to the point trust doesn't really come easily.

that being said, he isn't 100% a pure insufferable brat. he's more willing to put up with people who indulge his curiosities and don't try to suffocate him, and is so unused to the idea of affection that he may become unwittingly attached. even if he may appear to come around to harass or be a general nuisance, should someone show him kindness in some way, he'll likely remember it. that being said, he doesn't quite know how to handle it, and may react badly if someone comes on too strongly. he's still extremely unexperienced in almost everything, and putting up with his unstable emotions is a bit too much of a task for some. still, should someone be able to ride it out with enough stride, he might even find himself worrying about them. while it may take him a long time to understand why, he's never really made any bonds or felt anything positive towards others, and latching onto anything he feels can get him closer to being 'normal' is only natural.

crafted from the flesh, blood, and sinew of a higher being, dosei came into existence no more than a blank slate. like a puppet with an underdeveloped soul, he was created for the sole purpose of carrying out the work of his creator, who had become tired of the monotony of their job. fashioning a doll who could fade into human society without much trouble was supposedly the solution to their boredom, leaving others to deal with the responsibilities they had so they could focus on seemingly more important things. this lead to the creation of his siblings first, then dosei himself. dropped amongst the crowds with nothing but a few orders and a near-robotic sense of duty, this is what he did for centuries without complaint or deviation from the norm.

it was the same thing for a long time. in the background like a phantom, he crept around during the daylight hours and only worked during the darkness of night, slipping into the rooms of those he'd been told to while they slept, delivering epiphanies and inspiration with a simple brush of the fingers against their forehead. nobody saw him, and none of the chosen would think anything of the sudden rush of their revelations. while his clothing changed with the passing times to fit in better, it was like he was perpetually stuck in time, never aging even as the people around him went from went from young and spry to old and haggard, well-lived homes being demolished or replaced as the years went by. these aren't things he paid attention to or even acknowledged beyond a passing glance as he went about his business...at the very least, until the scourge of curiosity set in.

it began simply enough, being bumped into in the street or being distracted by the yellings of children. lingering for a second turned into five, and then ten, and sometimes he would spent minutes simply standing and observing from a distance. he didn't know what compelled him to do so, but sometimes he would stare at the smiling faces of passing people only to turn and stare at his own in the reflection of a puddle or in later years, a window. he looked painfully similar to these things, but he'd been told otherwise, and that bothering with them wasn't worth it. they were people, and he was not, and eventually that thought came to bother him.

he started staying longer. when society progressed into industrialization in some places, the nagging in the back of his mind only grew. he watched children play, parents and individuals gossip, and found himself mimicking things without thinking. pretending to wind up a toy, muttering words he didn't understand, picking flowers much like the humans his size liked to do...it felt odd, and he couldn't understand the reasoning, but some part of him felt compelled to do so. the first time he was scolded, it was for bringing a flower into his master's domain, tucked into the edge of his cap much like he'd watched someone else do. this was the beginning of the downward spiral, the admonishing igniting an odd fire in his chest.

he learned to hide things. scurried about his jobs and got sloppy when entering and leaving in his haste to have free time. dosei would sit on benches and strain to hear conversations, absorbing things like a sponge, and would even follow people to see what they did in their spare time. he liked words, liked being able to do what he wanted, and as the time passed it became more apparent his 'teenage rebellion' wasn't dying anytime soon. especially when he started to pick up on the more unpleasant words and gestures, time spent in the more seedy places starting to show their influence.

one day, he found he didn't want deal with it anymore. standing there taking orders and being referred to as something less than someone hadn't felt quite right since that day, and without thinking about it, he found his mouth moving, dusty voice unused to speaking full sentences but still managing to articulate that he didn't want to. no, he damn well didn't want to, and he made that known while tripping over the things they had learned, ranging from rude to just plain crude. this was enough to snap the delicate threads of patience his master had left. they had called the autonomy a disease, muttering to themselves as they tried to fix their mess. perhaps no voice to talk back, no working mouth to mimic unpleasant words, and a couple years in isolation would fix the problem that had reared it's head from humanity's vile illness. sewing the boy's mouth shut and removing any chance of making vocalizations, they shut him away, nothing but a void of darkness to keep him company while he 'thought' about behaving.

if anything, it only worsened the problem. perhaps years ago, it might not have bothered him, as obedient and empty as he was. but now, tasting individuality and craving it, it felt like a prison in the depths of hell. he came to fear the pitch black emptiness, so different from the vibrant life he'd come to know outside, and the time spent there only festered the emotions he didn't know or understand yet. it made him anxious, angry, aggressive. with no outlet to deal with the unknown feelings he'd been left to stew in, he took it out on fixtures and public property the moment he was released. as if to further spite the creature that locked him up, he only continued to act up out of sight, restraining himself only to avoid another trip to isolation.

even now, he tries to indulge himself while keeping his distance from people, simultaneously craving freedom whilst trying to 'behave' to keep himself out of trouble. unfortunately, these things don't quite mix. being given a chance to get away from the ever-looming threat of punishment might change that, however.
