NAME: Dosei
CANON: Original Character
CANON REFERENCE: N/A
CANON POINT: CRAU, from Slumscape
CRAU HISTORY: In the forgotten city of Hakagemachi, Dosei was forcefully possessed by the Jorogumo Yome, who unfortunately became his unwanted partner in their shared new home. A far cry from the mundane life of servitude he was used to, he first ignored the annoyed sighs and jabs the woman in his head had to offer and opted to enjoy his newfound freedom as best he could. While he found himself far more human than he was used to, he pushed it aside in favor of running amok without worry of punishment or scoldings. Being able to freely interact with humans (and otherwise), he ended up forging a lot of relationships both cordial and not while refusing to take the act of purifying anything seriously.
However, it became painfully clear that their situation was hardly ideal in any way. The injuries got more severe, the hallucinations came and went, and while being forced to rip flowers from his skin should have been the first wake-up call, it was the first death he experienced at the hands of the Farm Spirit that forced him to come to a number of uncomfortable realizations. The end was as frightening as he had imagined it, and while he despised the idea of having to cooperate so freely with others, he begrudgingly realized he would have to help others if he wanted to scrape his way out without numerous more deaths on his hands. It's at this point he and spirit inhabiting his body came to a tense, uncomfortable agreement to work a bit more cordially together for the shared goal of survival. Sprouting a small new set of eyes and sharp pair of teeth from this was only part of the bargain.
By then, he had a few bonds he had unwittingly gotten closer than he'd ever gotten in his life, but most had disappeared by the time the streets became flooded with blood. The accompanying loneliness was confusing enough to throw him off, allowing the red rain to seep further into his bones and puppet him into doing it's bidding against his will. While barely saved from up and drowning himself in the lake at the Spirit's call, it only succeeded in making him more paranoid and frustrated at his own weakness. Being forced to swallow somebody else's despair only made it worse- emotions are not his strong point, and it's hard for him to describe it, even moreso when a lack of a voice makes things even harder.
While making him a bit more guarded, wary of everything even more than he already was, all these experiences have instilled a bit more worldliness in him, as well as a sense of longing- he didn't realize how weirdly calming having other people to talk around around was until the world came crumbling down.
AGE: 800+, physically appears around 16 years of age.
APPEARANCE:
image 1
image 2
Relatively short and scrawny, Dosei possesses an unimpressive build, with thin arms and legs often hidden under extremely baggy clothing. His hair is a dark shade of blue, soft with light curls that refuse to stay down regardless of the measures taken. His eyes aren't too different a shade, almost cat-like pupils framed by long underlashes that tend to have an almost eerie glow in the right light. His surprisingly soft-looking features don't tend to suit the nasty expressions he tends to wear. His skin is extremely fair, and bruises very easily. Hidden under the surgical mask he wears almost everywhere is a line of black thread woven through the line of his lips, keeping them closed with only enough give to part his lips and bare a flash of teeth on occasion. Pulling down the high neck of his shirt will reveal a small jagged scar underneath his chin where the larynx is located, from when his vocal chords were removed. Were you to cut him anywhere, you'd find the liquid seeping out is an unnatural silver color, gleaming in the light but still flowing like blood normally would. This leads to his blushes being darker and having a near shimmery quality, and his bruises are similar as well.
He tends to favor baggy, well-covering clothing, which tends to make him look even smaller than he already is. He refuses to wear anything tight or uncomfortable, and will pitch a fit should you try to force him into something more suited for his size. He also always carries a pouch strapped to his waist, all the belongings he has shoved into it haphazardly. It seems to be slightly bigger on the inside than it looks from the outside.
From his stint in Hagakemachi, he now sports a second, smaller set of eyes set beneath his original pair, which can be open or closed depending now that he's learned to control them. In addition, he's sprouted a set of sharp fangs, with a mildly potent poison to go with them. His nails have also gotten harder, and a lot darker in color.
CONTRACT PAYMENT: His freedom from servitude (and his youkai's in turn).
QUESTIONNAIRE:● What does family mean to you and who do you consider a part of your family?
Dosei has a skewed view on family: his own is a mismatch of flesh dolls much like himself, all with their varying personalities. His emotions range more towards disgust, aggravation and apathy than anything he's heard a family described as. In his brain, 'family' is nothing that matters, just a bunch of strangers unwillingly stuck to you. If someone asked, he would dismissively mention a brother, a sister, an older sibling- nobody he finds joy in mentioning.
It does not occur to him that you can choose your family, nor has he had anybody he'd willingly call such with any enthusiasm whatsoever. Perhaps that can change, but for now, he's still processing the ability to have friends, nevermind family he can tolerate.● What is your favorite diversion? Hobbies, indulgences, vices? Would you put off important things for that diversion, or would you be more strict about how you spend your time and/or money?
Dosei has a great number of favorite diversions...mainly anything that is him not having to work. Playing games, going for walks, shoplifting, drawing, anything that he finds fun, he'll do if the chance arises, or even if it doesn't. He's made a habit out of doing the bare minimum of his job to get away with fucking around in the little time he's offered to himself, and if the opportunity arose, he'd procrastinate until the deadline hit and then some. He would also feel no shame over it, if someone pointed it out.
As someone who doesn't need many necessities, he doesn't care about spending the money he gets as he pleases. You might even have to coerce him into actually finishing his work in a timely manner, and it would take a lot of sweettalk to get him to consider it. Indulging is at the forefront of his mind nearly always, and you'd be hard pressed to find him in a mood willing to spend his time doing fruitful things.● How do you react to betrayal? How severe must a betrayal be for you to consider it such?
Due to not having a lot of close bonds in the past, Dosei is not really used to the idea of 'betrayal'. After all, it's hard to be betrayed when you don't really trust anyone. However, considering how far he's gotten with starting to actually like people, it'd be safe to say he would take a betrayal very, very hard. Opening up and getting attached is hard enough for him to parse, but someone he supposedly likes just dropkicking him to the curb or feeding him to the sharks? It would cut him deep, and he'd be unlikely to ever forgive them if it came to that. His frustration would leak out at every opportunity, and he would likely go out of his way to either avoid them completely or make them utterly miserable in an attempt to sort his own feelings out.
On that note, in terms of severity, it would probably take them either telling someone something he told in confidence, or just plain abandoning him. Abandonment would likely sting the most, due to his history.● You've worked with your Faction awhile now and you feel like the reward of your contract is within reach. But at the last moment, you are told you have even more service to pay beforehand, an obscure clause in the contract being exploited to keep you under your boss's thumb even longer. Your Faction Leader hasn't spoken on this, and might be able to dispute it. Do you go to your leader? Do you argue the dispute yourself? Do you begrudgingly accept the additional work? Something else?
Absolutely not. While Dosei is used to getting yanked around with no reward in sight, this is only because he has not been promised one. Now that he has a goal in sight, and he was supposed to have reached it, having some shit clause pulled on him out of nowhere is liable to make him go ballistic in a fit of righteous anger. It's something he's yearned for for so long, and now they want to pull the rug from under him just to put him through the grinder some more? Absolutely not.
If disputing it himself (likely with a lot of typed out expletives) doesn't work, he would turn to his Faction Leader as a last resort. He would likely fight tooth and nail until he's given no other choice, and even then he likely won't go quietly and obediently. He'll make his displeasure known to everyone, and they'll damn well like it.
POWERS & ABILITIES: Dosei is, by all rights, not a human. He's a simulacrum, sewn together from the flesh and blood of a higher being, and thus comes off as 'holy' to creatures or individuals with the ability to sense that sort of things. Carrying a minor fragment of the soul of their godly creator in their bodies, should something happen to crack or fracture it, they will likely suffer from 'leakage'- a phenomenon which ends with their bodies warping into a more suitable angelic form which grants them more power and an unnerving aura in exchange for losing their minds and being unable to tell friend from foe. It's fixable, certainly, but it isn't a pleasant experience for all involved.
He and his siblings' bodies don't age or change in any way, stuck in a constant form of stagnancy, and he doesn't need things like food or water or sleep to survive. However, due to his own sense of rebellion and deep seeded desire to have what he cannot, dosei enjoys all these things anyway (sans food, due to his inability to really eat it). Their bodies lack certain vital organs, and anything they consume is absorbed into their tissue rather than passing through a system. They do, however, still have hearts and a circulatory system. Due to this, it would make sense if it becomes more of a necessity for him to sleep and drink as a normal human does until he gets some his powers back and thus begins to function normally.
They have an healing factor, one which prevents them from dying from most forms of trauma. Small bruises and cuts heal in mere minutes, while more severe forms of injures such as amputation and harsh trauma may take hours to days. While previously incredibly reliant on this ability to protect him when he overtly indulges his own curiosity (to the harm of himself), Dosei has gotten used to his healing factor basically being 'turned off', and thus will not be too strongly effected by the lack of it. He may occasionally cough up blood due to his throat injury and a proper lack of quick healing, however.
From his stint in Hakagemachi, to go with his newfound spider-like parts, Dosei has gained the ability to climb on walls and ceilings, as well as a mildly potent poison he can inject into others (or spit on them). Depowered, all he can do is climb a bit better than an average person.
SUITABILITY: Dosei is an individual who, prior to Hakagemachi, has not had much interaction with people. All his knowledge of humanity, as well as most basic things came from a distance, and he had never really known kindness or love or anything really other than orders and animosity. In addition, he's seen many people die over the course of his long life, and is relatively unphased by gore and darker themes for the most part as it's nothing he (technically) hasn't seen before. Not to say he's any more used to the idea of himself or those he's become fond of dying, mind you, but violence is not something that he shies away from. If anything, it's his default. The Youkai currently sharing his body, Yome, is a Jorōgumo, so other topics such as drugs or sex are also not an issue, even if he himself may flounder a bit. He hasn't got a lot of experience, personally. Always time to learn!
He's a lot more well adjusted, coming from Hakagemachi rather than his home. While he's learned quite a bit, he's still tends to absorb outside influences almost like a sponge, and is a bit more knowledgeable of the consequences of his actions. Not that his easily triggered temper will stop him from getting himself in trouble with either his actions or his words, but it's a good learning experience, be it for better or for worse. Not to mention, he's somewhat used to being somebody's lackey, considering it's what he was technically born for- this is just him swapping hands to someone else. All things considered, however, he might find his new boss to be far more tolerable than his old one.
FACTION SUITABILITY:● SHUTEN - While not the most honorable of people, if there's one thing Dosei can agree on, it's willpower as opposed to black and white sentiments of 'right' and 'wrong'. He has an uncanny ability to do just about anything when he wants to put his mind to it, out of sheer stupid, stubborn determination. He would rather not care about things like true justice and upholding the status quo, all philosophies he's come to share an intense distaste for. He's nothing if not resolute in his own ways, even if he's begrudgingly begun to actually think about his actions on occasion. Physically, he's about as strong as a limp noodle, but he makes up for it with vicious ferocity and a willingness to go right for the eyes.
● TAMAMO - Dosei is, admittedly, not very bright. He doesn't tend to look ahead much, and just takes things as they go. However, the ideals of the Tamamo clan are something he can heavily relate to. He wants to be free, to be whoever he wants to be without being tied down to a path set for him, and he himself just wants things to be enjoyable. He is used to boredom, apathy, and misery, and can wholly appreciate the idea of being able to enjoy yourself to your heart's content while being who you are. While he is technically still piecing things together in terms of his own identity, he has known for a long time that to be stripped of his own autonomy would be a punishment near worse than death. There is no problem in shirking your duties if it means feeling liberated from the pain your day to day life offers, and you'd have a hard time convincing him otherwise. In addition, his Youkai is a Jorogumo, so she would also feel right at home amongst the clubs and more indulgent parts of the Tamamo Clan's businesses. He's wet behind the ears himself, but besides flustering him a little (a lot), he'd be able to handle it....not that he'd admit that he couldn't.
● SHUTOKU - As stated, Dosei is not a particularly bright individual, and he has no love of learning. That being said, being able to get a one up on his enemies or those he dislikes by holding cards they do not does appeal to him in some way. His own job back home was that a courier, slinking about in the night and delivering epiphanies and ideas to those in their sleep, so it's not too far off what he's used to. Being able to keep one's individuality amongst the pack is also a plus, as he greatly dislikes forcing himself to fit a mold he wasn't meant to.
● ENMA - Despite being crafted from the flesh of a higher being to carry out his will, which is to serve the people, Dosei himself does not enjoy the idea of becoming a snitch and an errand boy again. He can offer the ability to blend in well enough, running errands despite his obvious distaste, and showing no fear in going where others may, but it would be difficult to motivate him to work or show any form of enthusiasm. If anything, he may just straight up rebel due to hatred of the status quo. There is a chance that with enough prodding and care from other members, he may come to begrudgingly accept it, but it would be a long, painful road.

CANON: Original Character
CANON POINT: Around 2020, when he's still being used.
BACKGROUND: Boredom is a plague. It can affect everyone from the smallest child to the oldest creature, monotony providing little stimulation for one’s life. There’s only so much one can take of doing the same thing over with little rest or deviation. Even some animals can dare to change their approach if need be, if one way doesn’t suit them enough. Of course, all mortal creatures have only limited time.
When one is ageless, then the monotony becomes too much to bear.
Tens, thousands, millions of years have Gods existed, beyond the plane of existence only regular people can dream of. They watch from warped thrones, inhuman forms of claws, gaping holes, blank faces. Both the things of majesty and nightmares, they have their individual duties and have tended to them for millenia without complaint, for this is what they were given life. There are no questions, no complaints, no deviations from the norm.
Of course, that is not to say even beings above the mortal plain would not find themselves tired of the mundane. Attending to the same thing, relaying the same notices over and over–it takes a toll on the most weathered of minds.
One of these beings became the first to have enough. They had never been fond of humanity as a whole, and found delivering divine thoughts through their sleep a bothersome task. It’s with this in mind that they decided to take things into their own hands, and craft life to lessen the burden upon their shoulders.
A doll, crafted from the being’s own flesh, hair, and blood, were the result. By breathing a minuscule part of their soul into the item, it was given a human form and an undeveloped soul, a puppet created to follow the God’s will. It would split the duty in half, perhaps with less speed, but more efficiency. In the form of a human, the servant was sent off to take care of his master’s work, allowing the Messenger to sit back and watch his creation. At first, it was clumsy, unused to the body it was suddenly given, and had difficulties remembering what it was told, but as time passed, it became more physically capable of what was expected of it.
The boy, named Dosei, started out obedient. With little outside influences, he simply did as he was told and did his job, never staying long enough to bother with the humans he was delivering to. It’s not until the dreaded curiosity came that he began to linger a few minutes behind, pausing to observe and watch those he’s always been told were inferior, ugly. He witnessed their behavior and committed it to memory, being an impressionable thing, and over the centuries slowly began to become influenced by the very thing his master seemed to detest.
However, instead of developing in a friendlier way, his personality and mannerisms took a turn for the unpleasant. He became a bit more closed off, more rude, his mouth eventually forming the insults he’d heard so many times. It gradually got worse, until he was like a teenager in the throes of rebellion.
Hearing and witnessing such disrespect time and time again only boiled the Messenger’s blood, until they eventually decided that if you want to cure a sickness, you must first rip it out by the roots.
As punishment, they ripped the vocal chords straight from their servant’s throat, and was not satisfied until they had handstitched the boy’s mouth closed. Unable to spew his learned insults and responses, they thought it would serve as a valuable lesson to become as he once was.
Unfortunately, the damage was done.
He was already too shaped by humanity, unable and unwilling to simply sit pretty and do as he was told. Too long had they waited to try and fix what was done, and Dosei was deemed a failure in the eyes of his creator and their brethren. It would have been easy to rip the soul out of him and revert him to the mere marionette he truly was, lifeless and cold, but it was frowned upon to end a existence you had created.
It’s only because of this that he was spared, his orders more harsh and punishments more cruel. As immortal as any other creature beyond the realm of mortality, his duties have extended to present times, where the influences simply seem to grow worse and worse.
SUITABILITY: Dosei is an individual who has not had much interaction with people. All his knowledge of humanity, as well as most basic things comes from a distance, and he has never really known kindness or love or anything really other than orders and animosity. While admittedly unpleasant to be around due to his lack of social skills and the obvious pleasure he gets out of making people miserable (likely to take his own misery out on them), he is somebody who doesn't know how bonds work and would definitely benefit from the chance to make them.
In a setting like this, where he doesn't have his abilities or have to deal with the ever-looming threat of his creator's displeasure in the back of his mind, it would be ideal for him to finally mature a bit emotionally as well as experience everything he hasn't. Being as he is, he has a childish personality and mentality that could very well grow from exposure to other people as well as the consequences the game can offer, due to his inherent ability to absorb influence like a sponge. He'll likely never stop being a pain in the ass, but it would be good to see how he can adapt to dealing with people and pick up on things like social cues and other people's feelings.
QUESTIONNAIRE:
Dosei, being who he is, is not one who usually deigns to offer a helping hand to people. If anything, he prefers to do the exact opposite. People being injured or in trouble is none of his business, and as of now he sees no reason why he should help somebody or anybody he doesn't know unless there is something in it for him. While his curiosity may urge him to poke a sleeping bear, as the saying goes, he won't go out of his way to attempt to move the tree or go for help. There's a chance he might get attacked due to his tendency to do whatever he pleases without care for others, sometimes purposefully malicious, but it wouldn't matter in the end as he wouldn't bother.
This may get him on their bad side, perhaps more than just the singular creature's bad side, but regrettably he isn't quite intelligent enough to realize this. He doesn't feel it's his responsibility to waste his time on somebody he doesn't know, and wouldn't really register the consequences his actions would have in the long run, likely creating more trouble for himself when it comes down to it.
For the sake of this question, we can act like he has some other worst enemy, and get to the point that he would absolutely say no. Perhaps even aggressively. If he came to hate someone this badly, he would not even think about accepting, even for a moment, seeing as how his negative emotions are the ones he's used to experiencing the most. His own feelings would come first, and if he considered this person his worst enemy, he'd want to make them miserable rather than offer them any form of help against anything.
In typical form, Dosei would make it clear they can handle whatever problem it is on their own, regardless of what happens. Perhaps he could be inevitably convinced by someone who he has more positive feelings towards, but being as stubborn as he is, helping someone he dislikes immensely would be the last thing on his mind. If he did have to do something for the benefit of other people, it'd be with someone he can tolerate, and he'd likely whine in some form the whole time.
It would likely take him a moment to put it together, but when he does, the option would be clear. As we've discussed, he has no clear desire to really help anyone or prevent disaster from happening; if anything, he'd probably lead it towards the city just so he can see the chaos that would happen from it running loose. He feels a disconnect from the lives of regular people, so he'd feel nothing except a sick sense of enjoyment from watching the pointless destruction the creature would bring during it's rampage. He might even get himself injured by getting a little too close to the fray, although he doesn't really feel pain as strongly as everyone else, but that's inconsequential.
The only reason the person in the farmhouse ends up being spared their fate is because the amount of destruction in the city is far greater, thus it'd be far more entertaining to watch. The morbid, childish sense of curiosity he has is what mainly drives him, after all.
A difficult question, if only because Dosei is a person who highly values his own freedom, or at least the illusion of it. The thing he desires most is complete autonomy, which conflicts with the idea of letting something else borrow his body for whatever purposes they may desire. It's not as if he's really considered injury to be of consequence, so it's moreso the uncomfortable feeling of what he would have to experience during that 24 hour period. Would he be conscious, watching everything from the backseat? Would he be unconscious, only awakening after it's all over? Or something else, some sort of terrifying limbo he wouldn't be able to describe? This is one of the few things he'd actually think deeply about it, and he likely wouldn't enjoy any of his options.
Due to the threats his own creator has given him, about dismantling him and removing what fragile imitation of life he has regardless of how it's frowned upon, the idea of not having control of himself is a terrifying concept he wouldn't even enjoy considering.
While it would depend on the challenge itself, it's more likely he'd decline, out of the sheer fear of whatever he'd have to feel while his body is being driven by someone else. If it were truly something bad, that would permanently endanger him or someone else he's come to actually care about, there is the possibility he would choke it down for the sake of fixing it, but otherwise he'd take whatever came as is. Some things aren't worth the panic they incite
YOUKAI: Tsuchigumo
INVENTORY: A dollar-store notepad (stolen), a busted up pen (stolen), and a tempered glass bottle of glowing 'light'. They are things he can create with his abilities, but seeing as how he has none, he'll just keep the one he has as a form of security.

QUESTIONNAIRE:
● Your character finds an injured okami deep in the woods. Its leg is broken, trapped under a fallen tree, but it’s clearly in good health otherwise. They know this type of youkai is able to discern the morality of their past actions, and can turn hostile to them based off that judgment. What do they do?
Dosei, being who he is, is not one who usually deigns to offer a helping hand to people. If anything, he prefers to do the exact opposite. People being injured or in trouble is none of his business, and as of now he sees no reason why he should help somebody or anybody he doesn't know unless there is something in it for him. ● Your character's worst enemy asks to meet alone by moonlight in a remote location, to discuss temporarily banding together against a larger threat. How do they respond to the invitation?
● Your character has the option to lead a rampaging oni away from path where it would find and attack a lone, inhabited farmhouse. However, the only road they can distract it down leads to the city, where it will inevitably do more damage. What do they choose to do?
● A shrine of a powerful god offers your character a unique boon crafted to overcome the biggest challenge they’re currently facing. In return, it only asks to be able to possess your character for a 24 hour span of its choosing, which they will not necessarily get warning for. How do they feel about the exchange, and more importantly, do they accept it?
